Me? Pay for reviews? Don’t be ridiculous!

Having been on the receiving end of thousands of press kits, I’ve developed a sixth sense for identifying whether a kit’s going to be awesome or suck. One of the big differentiators is the quality of a band’s reviews.

Admittedly, it’s not the most important thing (that’s your music & what you’ve achieved to date), but reviews add a lot of credibility to your press kit and they help journalists and promoters to understand more about your music and professionalism as an artist.

Basically, they count.

The challenge is that collecting reviews from credible people within the music industry is really tough. The people you want reviews from are busy.

I receive my fair share of review requests each week asking for my feedback on new songs. Although I never say it, i’m always thinking ‘what’s in it for me?’ It’s not that I don’t want to help these artists, it’s just that I’m a busy guy and if I responded to all of these requests I wouldn’t get anything done!

So i’ve decided that for the next five days I will review any band. I will be reviewing your music honestly, so please don’t expect a 100% positive, although I do promise to keep it completely constructive. That said, if your music’s great you’re in safe hands.

To prevent a ridiculous number of bands abusing this opportunity, and to make sure only serious artists claim this offer, i’ve put a small price tag on this service.

Questions & Answers

How do I collect my review?
Here’s how it works – once you’ve completed payment, you’ll be directed to a page where you can submit your music and message outlining anything you want me to focus on in particular. I’ll get on the case and within 72 hours I’ll send a written review that you can use on your website, in your press kit, wherever you like.

Will my review be positive?
If your music's awesome, then most likely. If I don't like your music I will refund you - i'm not going to charge you to come up with a review that won't help you.

Do you offer refunds?
We sure do - if you're not satisfied with your review, email us and we'll either re-write it or refund your money. No questions asked.

Are you a credible reviewer?
I'm no industry top dog, but i've managed a label, been a signed musician, and worked in the music business for the past 5-6 years writing to an audience of over 300,000 artists. TheMusiciansGuide.co.uk is a well-established music business website. To answer your question in short, i'm less credible than Gene Simmons, but probably more credible than 'Doug' from 'a random radio station no-ones ever heard of'.

What can I do with my review?
Anything you wish... within reason. I'm happy for you to use it in your press kit, or when contacting journalists and promoters. As long as you don't alter the review to manipulate its meaning i'm cool with however you want to use it.
