This week’s artist interview is with Cardiff’s up and coming R’n’B star: Dean Raven. The soulful R’n’B singer, who takes his inspiration from the likes of Usher, Ne-yo and Lemar, is going to be talking to us about his recent hits and where he expects to take his music in the next year.

Hi Dean, we’d like to know how you got involved in singing R’n’B – have you always wanted to sing, or was it a decision you made later on?

Well, singing was something that I have been interested in since a very young age, I was always singing and dancing in front of the tv to the likes of Marvin Gaye, The Beatles and Boyz II Men. I started singing in shows, competitions, school plays and just loved the crowds reaction. It was when I was 14 years old that I got involved in R’n'B, I was inspired by artists such as Lemar and Usher to start singing that style. Ever since then i’ve been hooked and never looked back.

We see that you have done some work with the charity Cancer Research through your music, we think it’s really good that you’re using your music to help others – what is your motivation for helping this charity in particular?

I wanted to help contribute what I could to Cancer Research after I sadly lost a very close member of family to the disease, I have always said that if I ever established myself in the music industry I would try and help in anyway that I could. My first single ‘All the Love’ seemed like a great opportunity to help the charity. I also performed at the Cancer Research Live fund raising event which was a great opportunity for me.

So what should fans be looking out for in the next few months from Dean Raven? Do you have any new songs, gigs, or videos lined up currently?

I will be launching my album early 2010, which is entitled ‘Taking Off’, this will feature the singles All the Love, You & I, What I gotta do, Daydream Girl and lots of top secret unheard material! The album is pretty mixed with some upbeat club tracks and some nice slow and soulful R’n'B songs, I think there’s something for everybody really.
