Marcus Taylor is regarded as one of the UK’s leading voices in the online music industry. Specialising in music marketing, Marcus’ list of achievements in the industry is as long as it is impressive – from being signed to six record labels at age sixteen, to owning one of the UK’s leading independent record labels and even being approached by The Cheeky Girls asking to manage them!

“To cut a long story short, it all started when I was 13 years old and like many young musicians I started a band with some friends from school. After several years of learning the difficulties of succeeding in the industry I began to get a feel for how to market myself correctly, that’s when I started to get the attention of record labels and was releasing between 3 – 5 songs a week for six different record labels in three different continents, it was a lot work but hey, no pain, no gain, right? |
I then realised that my true passion lies in marketing music, so I decided to launch my own independent record label, Starharbour Records. This is where I learnt many of the ins and outs of managing, marketing and making successes of musicians. Within just a year of running the label I was being contacted by many well-established artists and major record label exec’s looking to work with my record label.
But In 2009 I decided it was time for a change of scenery, so I went full time working as a social media executive – creating ideas that successfully market brands on the internet to gain them exposure and an edge against their competitors. I have been responsible for many incredibly successful marketing campaigns, including one for major record label EMI Records.
I wrote The Musician’s Guide to World Domination over the summer of 2009 to share everything that I have learnt over the years about succeeding in the music industry with musicians."
